Custom ERU for an Optimal Learning Environment

Creating an optimal learning environment is essential for student success and staff productivity. With students spending approximately 178.6 days per year in school, maintaining a comfortable indoor climate during warm and cool seasons is crucial. Excellent ventilation and high efficiency filters improve indoor air quality to minimize airborne illnesses that can affect attendance and academic performance.

Custom ERU for a School

A Custom Indoor ERU Design

Designed for an elementary school, this XeteX custom indoor energy recovery unit (ERU) utilizes premium heating, cooling, and ventilation components to deliver indoor air quality (IAQ), energy efficiency, and provides a healthier and more comfortable environment for student learning. It incorporates innovative design for long lasting performance while addressing form factor constraints.

Key Features of an ERU for a School

Sensible Only Flat Plate Heat ExchangerSensible Flat Plate Heat Exchanger
The ERU recovers energy from the exhaust air to pre-condition incoming fresh air. This process reduces the overall energy consumption required for heating and cooling while it enhances indoor air quality by ensuring a constant supply of fresh air.

The heat exchanger works by transferring heat between two air streams without mixing the air. In winter, the heat from the exhaust air is transferred to the incoming cold fresh air, reducing the energy required to heat the building. Conversely, in summer, the cooler exhaust air helps to pre-cool the incoming warm air, reducing the load on the cooling system. This sensible heat recovery significantly reduces the energy consumption of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.

Chilled Water Coils
These coils use chilled water to remove heat from the air, providing effective and energy-efficient cooling. This is particularly useful in a classroom filled with students.

Hot Water Coils
On the other hand, a chilly environment can be just as uncomfortable as excessive heat. Hot water coils use heated water to warm the air during the colder months.

High-Efficiency Filters
MERV 8 and MERV 13 filters help remove airborne contaminants and allergens, further improving indoor air quality.

Custom Design
In addition to designing an energy efficient unit, it also features a five-section split construction to address form factor constrains facilitating indoor installation and serviceability.
